Dr. Mrs. Shobana Vasudevan could be described as a hardcore educationist. Having joined the profession as early as 1981. During her fairly long association with Podar College, till date, she has performed multiple roles. She has been a lecturer, Reader, Associate Professor, N.S.S. Programme Officer, Vice-Principal, Chairman - Examinations, and the like.
She has been guiding the students to conduct college activities as the Chairperson of Students’ Council. She became the Principal of the college in 2009. She has been working for NAAC accreditation during all the 3 cycles when college was accredited with the highest grade at every cycle.
Dr. Shobana Vasudevan has been an avid researcher by herself and has been encouraging research activities at the institution. Besides publishing her research work in reputed journals she has been awarded a PEIN-INDIA research excellence award by University of Santiago-de-Compostala, Spain. She was invited to deliver lecture at Universities abroad including University of Wisconsin, USA. She is the Editor of the international interdisciplinary research journal ‘Podar Prabodhan’ published by R.A. Podar College which has been tagged by J-gate. She has travelled widely in India and abroad. She has been invited to deliver her views on Higher education, finance, capital market, research methodology etc. on a regular basis.
She has been instrumental in reviving the research centre for Banking and Finanace at Podar college.She being the recognized guide under University of Mumbai she has been guiding students for Ph.D degree in Commerce. She has been instrumental in establishing two more research centre in the last four years. She has been Co-ordinating and conducting refresher courses, research coursework and research methodology workshops on regular basis under the auspices of U.G.C. M.H.R.D., IC.S.S.R, W.I.R.C., RUSA and other funding agencies. She has been associated with NAAC as a member of the committee for revising NAAC guidelines and also a member in devising the guidelines for IQAC. She has been closely associated with the parent body of the College, Shikshana Prasraraka Mandali, Pune as the Chairman of the Administrative Board. She has served various University bodies which includes Cultural and Sports committees. Besides college administration she has been recognised by the society and community as she has been included as a member of Mahila Dakshata Committee of Mumbai Police, which works for the betterment of women and children.
She believes in making her children ‘LEARN’ as she strongly advocates Learning more than Teaching. For her, Podar College campus is a TEMPLE OF LEARNING.
